The star rating has stopped working here
Of the 40 cafés this guide holds in Canggu, 35 clear 4.5 and 26 clear 4.7. When almost everything on a street is rated above 4.7, the number is no longer a recommendation. It is the local temperature.

Volume is what still separates them

The real scene is about 100 cafés across three names, spread over roughly four kilometres, rather than the single strip the word implies.
What to sort on instead
If the stars are flat, sort on what the room is for. A café carrying more than a thousand reviews is a destination, which means a queue at nine, a menu built for people who came specially, and a good chance of a laptop on every table. A café under two hundred is a neighbourhood, which means a seat, a shorter menu and staff who will remember you on the third morning.
12 of the 40 are the first kind and 12 are the second, and almost nothing sits between them. That is a genuinely useful split, and it is the one the rating cannot show you. It is also the reason a list like this is worth carrying on a phone rather than memorising: the choice changes with the hour, the weather and whether you feel like talking.
Two practical notes from the data
