This guide holds 184 entries in Ubud carrying 372,123 Google reviews between them, about 2,022 each. Canggu has more places, 214 of them, and 274,215 reviews, or 1,281 each.
Everything in Ubud has already been found. Your problem is not discovery. It is that the good things are full by eleven.

Everywhere else here the argument is that a place with eleven reviews and 4.9 stars is the interesting one. On a two-day trip it is not: you have four meals and one afternoon, and a closed kitchen or a bad call costs a quarter of the visit.
So the filter is 4.5 and above with at least five hundred reviews. 100 places that are neither a gamble nor a tourist tax, and 39 of them clear 4.8.
Do not hire a car
49 of the 100 sit within a kilometre and a half of the Monkey Forest junction and 74 within two and a half. Only 3 are further out than five kilometres.
The centre is a walkable town with a traffic problem bolted to it, and between eleven and four the traffic wins. Walk in the middle of the day and ride at the edges of it.
What the 2,022 reviews per place actually cost you
Ubud averages 2,022 Google reviews per entry against Canggu's 1,281, and that ratio is the thing to plan around. It does not mean Ubud is better. It means every place worth eating at has already been written about, photographed and put on a list, and the people who read that list are arriving on the same morning you are.
The practical translation is that a table is a queue and a viewpoint is a queue, and the only lever you hold is the hour you show up. 39 of the 100 places here clear 4.8, which is a lot of very good options. Not one of them is a secret, and treating any of them as one is how a two-day visit turns into a day of waiting.
Two days is longer than it looks
Of the 93 that publish hours, 43 are open by eight in the morning and 65 are still serving at ten at night. The morning is the part visitors waste: the market, the walk and the good coffee are all done before the coaches arrive.
The busiest entry in Ubud is Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary, at 59,325 reviews. Plan around that number rather than into it. All of this is decided on a phone at seven in the morning, which is the one hour of the day when the villa desk is unstaffed and the wifi you borrowed yesterday is somewhere else.
